The road runs deep into the dark night. The air is still warm, redolent with scents released in the heart
of the desert.
Francis Kurkdjian chose to compose Sauvage Extrait as though he was following a mysterious road through a
dense, enveloping and deep nocturnal landscape.
The fragrance of a night as dark as ink, imbued with sensuality, intensity and wild beauty. As if born from
a creative road trip in perfect harmony with vast open landscapes.
The iconic Sauvage accord, constructed in 2015 around lively Bergamot, fresh French Lavender and intense Ambroxan™, takes on a new identity of unrivalled power.
Characterized by a new woody chiaroscuro duality, Sauvage Extrait gains new intensity as extreme as it is original. The composition becomes "matter", in an enveloping, ultra-powerful woody symphony where oud wood features for the first time ever in the history of Sauvage, as its backbone. At the heart of this duality, light and dark notes converse, as do dry and luminous facets, smoky and earthy nuances, resinous and animalic tones.
The composition's complexity is the result of an Haute Parfumerie approach and a slow-time process that only the great perfume houses such as Dior still practice. After its raw materials are blended, the Sauvage Extrait formula requires six weeks of maturation and maceration. Over this 42-day period, the raw materials are elevated, as they converse and converge to create this rare and precious extract.
As sophisticated as it is intense, Sauvage Extrait combines concentration levels at the limit of what is possible, with signature raw materials. A commitment to luxury and the highest standards is revealed, in both ingredient sourcing and the perfumer's craft.
Native to Southeast Asia, oud wood is a noble and costly ingredient. Used in sacred ceremonies, the "Wood of Gods" has, over time, become highly prized in perfumery. Also known as agarwood, it is sourced in tropical regions that are home to the aquilaria tree from which this precious resin has been extracted for centuries. Used for its rich, complex aroma, it is difficult to extract, as one must wait at least 10 years to use it, which only adds to its rarity and appeal.
Its truly distinctive and powerful fragrance is described as woody, balsamy and earthy, with tawny, animalic notes, tinged with spices and leather.
A first in a Sauvage composition, oud wood sourced from a certified supplier in Vietnam is the signature of the Extrait. It provides new facets characteristic of this supplier: slightly softer, more harmonious than other varieties, it offers fermented fruity and resinous nuances, with notes of honey and incense.
